Feng Shui for Your Bedroom Color

Choosing a color trend for your bedroom is all about creating a positive personal space that would reflect your most intimate thoughts and desires. Your bedroom color sets your mood and feelings and may even affect your decisions.

Unappealing bedroom colors can make you distasteful toward the room, thus making you limit the time you spend inside it. Hence, it is vital that the colors of your bedroom reflect your inner self and make you feel relaxed and comfortable.

Some interior designers advise that color schemes for your bedroom should be patterned to the bed itself. The bed, in a sense, serves as your personal throne and everything else in the bedroom should be shaped to amplify this throne. ‘Everything else’ here includes your bedroom color.

If you think about it, it actually seems easier to pick a good bed and go to the hardware store to find a matching wall color than to do otherwise. In fact, most paint retailers will even offer to fabricate a color that matches a particular color in the bed design.

Feng Shui experts say that any bedroom color scheme should consist of 3-5 color elements. Various tips are available online to help you decide what shades go well together but it is still up to your own taste.

Without the decors and furniture, the walls will account for approximately 60-75% of the total space in your bedroom. In addition, because wall space gives the largest amount of color to your bedroom, it is essential to take time in finalizing your wall color choices.

According to Feng Shui, it would do us well to choose color schemes that slightly oppose our own characters and personalities. For instance, if you exhibit a fiery or aggressive personality, it is best to color your wall a calm and serene shade such as cream, mild brown, or some shades of blue and green. The amount of fire in your character should determine the weight of the shade. If you want to incorporate your favorite fiery colors into your room, you can do so through the decorations, trim, and carpeting. This idea of course springs from the Yin Yang philosophy of balance and temperance.

Because color, in Feng Shui, is one of the easiest ways to shift the energy in your space, you should be careful in balancing the colors to create a harmonious home. Each color is an expression of one of the Five Feng Shui Elements—Fire, Earth, Metal, Water, and Wood. Choose the Feng Shui colors corresponding to the energy you need and incorporate them into your bedroom through the wall color, furnishings, and other décor items.

Colors are nourishing and uplifting. The more harmonious colors you absorb through the day, the more positive your sense of being will be.
